Switzerland: 20 Times More Scooters Last 20 Years

These are pretty amazing statistics coming from the Swiss Federal Office of Statistics (OFS). Overall in 2010, there were 5.36 million vehicles circulating in Switzerland, of which 12% were motorcycles. In the last 20 years, the number of motorcycle doubled, from 299,264 to 651,252 in 2010, but it’s the number of scooters that blows your mind (well, at least it did mine).

Last Sunday, the President of the Great Paris area (Ile-de-France) got caught speeding and lost his driving license on the spot. He’s the last one in a long series of politicians who are caught speeding, including the President of France. If the politicians who make up these repressive laws can’t even be seen to be respecting them, what chance do we motorcycle riders have?

Paulin And Searle Winners Of Today’s Qualifying Races

The beautiful Italian track hosted today the MX1 and MX2 qualifying races and the first race of the last round of the UEM EMX-125 series. The almost 34 degrees registered today in Fermo did not stop Gautier Paulin and Tommy Searle to dominate their respective qualifying races and later on Simone Zecchina was proclaimed the 2011 UEM EMX-125 Champion after finishing fifth in today’s heat and having still one more race to go tomorrow.
