The new FIM approved Moto2 Championship may only be two races old, but already it has managed to create quite a stir in the motorsport sector.

Several journalists, insiders and fans, including myself were slightly sceptical and critical about some of the proposed changes to the quarter litre class for 2010, but I’m pleased to report that after two fascinating and exhilarating races I’ll gladly eat humble pie and say that Dorna have managed to formulate a Championship that should open up doors to a far greater array of motorcycle riders.

Held – in my Defence

Posted on 31. Jul, 2010 by admin.

I have only ever had one textile jacket, it was my first biking garment, but since then had considered leather as the way to go, principally because of the increased abrasion protection it usually offers over textile equivalents, but also because, hey! Leather jackets – they’re cool!. However, I was recently given the opportunity to try a textile jacket from Held and my opinion of textile jackets changed for the better.

Just when you think the season is starting to fall into a pattern, a weekend like we just experience at Mugello happens and everything is thrown up into the air. Valentino Rossi’s 100mph plus monster highside and damaged femur has thrown the season and contract negotiations into the air.

Firstly, it is obviously important to wish Valentino a speedy recovery from his injury. It now appears likely that he could miss a large majority of the season and any talk of a tenth Championship will be put on hold until 2011.

Summer’s here and bikers across the world have shed their thick clumsy winter oven mitts in favour of their long lost summer gloves, likely as not grubby and stiff from a winter in the garage.

Ben Spies – A Rookie In Name Only

Posted on 31. Jul, 2010 by admin.

He is known as the Texas Terror and if you look at the stats from his Superbike riding career you will see that it is a nickname that is very apt. Spies terrorised his opposition into a state of submission as he amassed three back to back AMA superbike titles, before moving across the pond to take on the Worlds best Superbike riders on a machine that was new and completely alien to anything he had ridden before, on tracks that were new and despite all of this he managed to amassed a record number of pole positions within one calendar season and 14 race victories.

MotoGP Musical Chairs

Posted on 31. Jul, 2010 by admin.

It has been a busy time in the MotoGP paddock, but maybe for all of the wrong reasons. It has been less like a competitive sport and more like a game of musical chairs as riders have been arriving and leaving the paddock more frequently than a game of musical chairs.

It all appeared to start when Valentino Rossi lost contact with his Yamaha M1 in free practise at Mugello, breaking his femur in the process. Over the course of the next to rounds both Hiro Aoyama and Marco Melandri suffered injuries which prevented them from competing depleting the grid to a new all time low.

Do you wear jeans whilst riding? If so, you’re going to love these ones. The recent good weather has been great, but unfortunately, it won’t last forever. Alpkit Pro jeans are made with denim, the cotton fibres of which have been treated before being made into the denim. That treatment has been given the name Epic© and basically involves Silicon – which hates water. The Epic© treatment is “applied to the rear of the fabric and forced deep into the fibres” and gives them waterproofing and windproofing capabilities as well as ensuring they dry super-quickly.
