Lorenzo Grabs Last-Minute Mugello Pole as Rossi is Edged onto Second Row

Jorge Lorenzo took his second pole and fifth front row of the season after a scintillating qualifying session in Italy this afternoon, which left the top four riders separated by less than two tenths of a second. His Fiat Yamaha team-mate Valentino Rossi qualified fourth and finds himself off the front row at Mugello for the first time since 1999, when he was still in 250s.

Yukio 8th, Despite Crash

Team Suzuki Alstare Brux rider Yukio Kagayama suffered a big crash, but defied the pain barrier to set the eighth fastest lap of the day. When he removed his right boot at the end of qualifying, his foot was very swollen and he was taken to the Clinica Mobile for X-rays.

Troy 14th on Opening Day at Miller

Troy Corser finished the first day of practice and qualifying at the Miller Motorsport Park in 14th place despite problems with grip. He also suffered a few ‘moments’ in today’s two sessions, but was able to recover and not crash.
