Buying a real cruiser, tourer or custom has absolutely nothing to do with cylinder capacity. That’s the first idea you get when seeing the 2009 V Star lineup, especially the 650cc trio, the Classic, Silverado and Custom. These bikes are built with reliability, comfort and fuel efficiency in mind and it is by now a fact that beginners love them mostly due to offering diversity in the form of entry-level products.
Does 40-cubic-inch of V-twin motor ring a bell? This is one of the first engines to power a Yamaha cruiser-type motorcycle and ten years after being introduced it still rocks…on three stylish different models.

Ever since Yamaha decided to brand all their cruiser-type models as Star, they’ve aimed towards delivering outstandingly refined machines as well as reviving legends such as the VMAX. But they were lacking new models and the all-new 2009 V Star 950 models stand as the first step towards changing that situation.
The V Star 950 was built from ground up and addresses either at riders who are just starting to ride or at those in search for the best cruiser that $8K can buy.

Latest 600cc sportbikes down on power?

It’s generally an accepted truth that the big four Japanese motorcycle manufacturers will find some way to incrementally improve the performance of their various 600cc sportbikes year-after-year. At some point, you may begin to wonder just how much more juice can be extracted from a relatively small displacement engine.
According to a recent test by Motorcycle.com, both the and the are down a bit on the dyno compared to their 2008 siblings. Why? The Honda’s issue may be related in part to U.S. noise regulations and the tricks that cycle manufacturers employ to get their screamers down to lawful decibel levels at their high-rpm power peaks.
For its part, Yamaha has tried hard to boost the weak mid-rpm power that the ultra-aggressive R6 has been saddled with the last few years, but that retuning may have yielded too high a penalty at higher revs. This small problem doesn’t seem to be affecting Kawasaki, though, as Team Green was able to punch out an impressive 107.7 horsepower at 14,100 rpm from the s 599cc powerplant, all the while remaining competitive in the mid-range.

The 2009 Star Road Star Silverado and Silverado S are ready for the long haul and don’t mind letting everyone notice this fact. Packed with floating floorboards, a tall windscreen passenger backrest as well as with hard-shell sidebags, the Silverados are comfortable and offer plenty of loading capacity.
And all of that extra load is properly dealed with loads of torque and a harmonious rumble provided by the 102-cubic-inch V-twin engine powering the two cruisers.

Basically a stripped down Stratoliner, Star’s 2009 Roadliner qualifies for the ultimate boulevard cruiser not only because of the massive engine powering it, but also due to the glamorous styling and unique riding feel. Cumulating these incontestable qualities, this model has everybody going “yes, it’s a Star” and who are we to disagree?
Available both as Roadliner Midnight and Roadliner S, this cruiser is set to find the sweet spot of riders who prefer short and non-windy rides, but also that of those who feel like buying a base motorcycle and accessorize it as their hearts demand.

Star remains a strong player on the highways with the Royal Star Venture model, their ultimate tourer that carries on as a 2009 model year without changes, but clearly stands out thanks to the consecrated features such as the V-four motor and five-star accommodations.

In the Autoblog Garage: 2009 BMW R 1200 GS

The rapidly expanding adventure-touring motorcycle genre is easiest to understand when you equate it to the booming sport-utility segment of the late ’90s. However, unlike the majority of SUVs that hit the roads at the end of the last decade, today’s adventure bikes actually posses equal parts sport and utility. The Bavarian motorcycle maker kick-started the category with the seminal R 80 G/S in 1980 and today, it dominates the class. In the interim, the GS line has undergone a series of upgrades, switching from airhead to oilhead engines in 1994 and expanding its range of single and twin-cylinder bikes, including the F 650 GS, F 800 GS and the penultimate R 1200 GS Adventure.
The 2009 R 1200 GS is the culmination of BMW’s efforts and the genre as a whole. Since its introduction in 2004, the range-topping GS has been updated to include a revised servo-less ABS braking system, a slight bump in power and the addition of Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA). But the revisions don’t tell the whole tale. What’s it like to live with the GS for a week? Let’s find out…
